Tomorrow is 1/2 day of school.

Baking & Pastries classes prepared Fresh Pumpkin Pies this week. Students cleaned, roasted, and pureed the fresh pumpkins, then prepared pumpkin pies. The most challenging part always seems to be rolling out the crust - however they all turned out great!

Senior Culinary Application Students created these magnificent creations - Pumpkin Pie Layer Cake with Toasted Marshmallow Meringue. This week- long project included cleaning and roasting sugar pumpkins, peeling and pureeing the pulp, then preparing all of the components. Layers of pumpkin spice cake were brushed with a vanilla milk wash, then topped with brown sugar buttercream, crumbled pie crust, pumpkin cream cheese filling, repeated for 3 - 4 layers, then topped with marshmallow meringue stars that were toasted with our kitchen torch.

The Stafford Trojans play at Tescott tonight for their last game of the season. Start time is 7:00pm.

Stafford 6th graders collected 135 pairs of socks for the Sophomores' sock drive. 7th graders are in second with 50 pairs. There is still time to donate through Friday to room 330, but we sure wanted to recognize our kind and generous middle schoolers! Lots of families will have warm feet this winter. #OneTeamOneFamily #Socktober

Parents and community members -
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an instrumental part of every child's development and education! Did you know that the majority of skills employers look for aren't math, science, reading, etc.... they're social skills like self-regulation, responsibility, and initiative!
"Simply put, SEL is how children learn to better understand themselves, relate to others, and work toward their goals. SEL includes five [basic] social and emotional skills – self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making – that can be taught at all ages and in many different ways.
When young people have caring adults and many opportunities to practice these skills, they do better in school, feel good about themselves, can manage stress, and have healthier relationships."
Our Core Essentials curriculum and student recognition are just a couple ways that our school is trying to teach our students' these skills but we need help! Parents and community leaders are SO important in this mission; it's not enough for them to just learn and practice these skills at school, they need it at home and in the community, too!
To learn more about SEL and how you can help your students advance these skills at home, take a look at the website below:

Students in the 4th Hour Culinary Applications class prepared Pan-Seared Scallops with parsnip puree, quick-pickled apples, and bacon. This dish was not only beautiful - it was absolutely delicious! It is definitely an appetizer that would be at home on the menu at an upscale restaurant! Their garnishing skills were on point and overall they did a fabulous job!

Baking & Pastries students will soon be preparing various sourdough bread products. Starters are being divided and fed to ensure enough for several labs, including artisanal sourdough, dinner rolls, and pancakes.
